A Hawkins man is claiming his civil rights and religious freedom were violated earlier this year when a black man sacked his groceries and a Big Sandy grocery store owner banned the customer from the business.

He is not hiding under a white hood or behind political correctness. Everyone knows what he thinks and feels and can decide whether they want to interact with him or accept his business. As repulsive and despicable as he is, we know where he stands. I'd rather that than not know the facts. Racism exists and will for a long time or perhaps forever. We can pass legislation that curbs behavior but not thoughts. No law can shield us from that reality. For #badword#s like that, it takes them getting saved after a car accident or having a heart attack by a person of a different ethicity or race to even chip away at their #badword#ness. In the meantime, we don't have to guess where they stand or where their souls will end up.
