The discussion re: empty seats was entertaining to me.

If I'm honest with myself, I'll admit it sounds a lot like the discussions that take place on the semi-boards when they get ragged about not selling out their stadium.  They'd make the same arguments about the proliferation of HDTVs, cost of tickets, the economy,  crappy cupcake games, etc, and we'd just blast them for having a weak fan base.

Me?  I think it's downright embarrassing to have as many empty seats as we did on Saturday vs. BGSU.  A few thousand sprinkled here and there?  Sure.  But vast blocks of empty seats?  Sorry, that' pathetic.

You know what I think?  I think the most recent version of Gator fans are soft, and by recent, I mean those that got into it within the last 15 or so years.  I think our success has led to a style of "what have you done for me lately" fan that just isn't all that interested if we're not in the top 10.

We aren't much different than Semis, or Dawgs, Cocks, Tigers, Plainsmen, Crimson Tide, Buckeyes, etc. The typical college football consumer comes from a very similar demographic regardless of school affiliation. Fans are generally upper middle class but this economy has had severely negative effects on everyone.

Disclaimer to this post: Miami fans are subhuman pariahs with more in common with a school of trash eating fish in the most sewage polluted sea in the world than they have in common with any other collegiate fanbase.
