If I'm honest with myself, I'll admit it sounds a lot like the discussions that take place on the semi-boards when they get ragged about not selling out their stadium.  They'd make the same arguments about the proliferation of HDTVs, cost of tickets, the economy,  crappy cupcake games, etc, and we'd just blast them for having a weak fan base.

Me?  I think it's downright embarrassing to have as many empty seats as we did on Saturday vs. BGSU.  A few thousand sprinkled here and there?  Sure.  But vast blocks of empty seats?  Sorry, that' pathetic.  

You know what I think?  I think the most recent version of Gator fans are soft, and by recent, I mean those that got into it within the last 15 or so years.  I think our success has led to a style of "what have you done for me lately" fan that just isn't all that interested if we're not in the top 10.

game in 1955. I was 7 yrs old. In the 60's and 70's spring games were attended by maybe 50 people. Nobody cared about practice. Now spring games are attendance contests. If you don't draw 60 or 70 thousand you are not good fans. If practice isn't open to the public people are offended. In the old days the only info you had came in the local paper, during the season. No internet and the many blogs and no ESPN. Way too much info out there now, and everybody wants more. Games were on TV maybe once a year. Remember what a great moment it was to be able to see the UF/OleMiss gator bowl game in 1958 on TV. Gators lost 7-3 but it was a great game. Couldn't afford to go and it was an all day trip to Jax anyway. Money controls the sport now. Not too long ago the first two games were always at 6PM. Still hot but not as bad as Noon. Now what ever ESPN wants they get. They own you. Bitching and moaning will not do anything. Go to games when you can and enjoy the game. It's hard to do now with all the blaring music between plays the jumbotron blasting out garbage. It's the modern 21 st century society. Go Gators beat A&M and all will be right with the world. At least for a week.
