"My take on the South Carolina game...."

Edited by Author at 10/19/2012 - 5:50 p.m.
I was honestly shocked that LSU was able to control South Carolina like they did.

Then I remembered how Spurrier played against Vanderbilt. Shaw is kind of a poor-mans Johnny Manziel. If it wasn't for his running abilities and Marcus Lattimore, he would be a slightly-worse-than-average QB in the SEC. If Florida plays pretty basic, keeping the QB in the pocket, few blitzes, and keeping everything in front of them, i.e. following the 2nd-half Texas A&M blueprint, we could make Shaw look like a slightly-worse-than-average QB, probably worse than that even.

On the other hand, if Florida plays too aggressively, gets cute, over-pursues and blitz/stunt the entire game, we could make Shaw look like first-half Manziel.

If Florida plays disciplined, which is a huge IF, I can't see South Carolina scoring over 14 points even with their superior special teams.

I do find it odd how Spurrier never ran out of QB's who could run the Fun 'N Gun at Florida, but can't find anyone who can't play worth two shtts at South Carolina.

For me, our offense versus their defense is not the match-up of the game. Btw, do not let their performance versus Georgia fool you. Georgia has great players on offense, but they never seem to perform against aggressive/tough teams. South Carolina is definately that, especially on defense.

Honestly, IMO, the game will feel very much like Florida/LSU with both offenses looking like crap. I think the key to matching up against defenses like South Carolina, who are very fast on the edges, is to run right at them. This has always been the key to beating great pass rushes. Gillislee is the best running back South Carolina has played this year. Obviously, facing Lattimore in practice helps you some, but I doubt the interactions in practice are anywhere near game-time simulation, especially the physicality.

Having LSU pound them last week really helps Florida in this game too. Not just pyschologically either, though that helps. LSU drained them from having solid 4th-quarter reserves. Florida wears down teams anyway. Usually by the 4th quarter, the other team is completely exhausted. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw similiar results even at the beginning of the 2nd-half of this coming game.

Usually the team coming off a loss has the edge and it would have probably been better if LSU had lost in the final minutes.

Having said that, South Carolina still has more pressure to win than Florida and Florida can take away any aggressiveness by just running and running and running with Gillislee.

Game Predictions: Florida 28, South Carolina 17
