Message Replied To ========== Thing is, we don't know if he sucks less He's changed positions like I change wives, and we have very little viable data to go on. The suck we know might be less sucky than the suck we don't.============================== While it's obvious to the few who read my posts that I don't like (and would never vote for) Obama, I very much do support Romney, and not just because he's not Obama. I'm surprised he was able to get the nomination due to his RomneyCare history and Mormon pedigree, but I put that on the MSM for painting the entire Republican party with tea party extremist brushes. I'm proud of the GOP for nominating him, and it disproves the theory that the party is under siege from the radical right. Why do I like Romney? - Experience: Not just experience, successful management experience in multiple environments: private (Bain), public (MA governor) and both (Olympics). No matter your opinion on how Bain operates or what he did in MA, nobody can deny that the man is prepared for the job of POTUS. He knows how to run things on a large scale, and do it well. Compare that with the incompetent "community organizer" we have now. Guy never ran a #badword#ing thing in his life, and boy, does it show. I feel GREAT about the idea of having a highly qualified, experienced manager in the Oval Office. - Economic Policy: Yes, he's been vague in some areas, because as others have noted, it's damn hard to get elected POTUS, particulary from the right, where the MSM works against you. That said, I'm like Milton Friedman: "I am in favor of cutting taxes under any circumstances, and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever possible." The political viability of Romney's partly-defined tax cut plans notwithstanding, he is drastically more likely to be aligned with Friedman than is Obama, who is obssessed with increasing taxes on ME personally - as if I was a "millionaire and billionaire." I am neither of those as traditionally defined, so as a result I find myself in the highest tax class of any in the US - high earning W-2 employees that work for a big corporation. The amount of my income forcibly taken by the federal government might not be reduced under Romney, but it is certain to get worse in a second Obama term. I also think ObamaCare will be a massively destructive force to our economy down the road - and while there's little hope for repeal under Romney, I'm confident he will try to do that, or at least minimize its worst impacts. - OTOH, I am not a fan of Romney's (current) social views. Among other differences, I fully support gay marriage and adoption, I think adult women in their first trimester should have ready access to safe and legal abortion (that they pay for themselves), and am a big supporter of the extra-constitutional concept of Separation of Church and State. I would prefer a candidate that shares my views on those topics, but it just isn't feasible in our two-party system today. I take solace in the thought that Romney won't make a legislative priority out of opposing gay marriage and abortion, in particular since he has previously expressed views more consistent with mine. I believe his actual views are closer to mine, and he moved right out of political necessity.
