The Big E squeezed one last deployment in. She will retire on December 1st to begin her long process of getting rid of her nuclear fuel and associated equipment. She will 51 years old in a few short days. More have served on her than any other ship EVER in the United States Navy. Yes hundreds of thousands came onboard as young folks and left wise and much more mature a few years later. I never served on her but was in her battle group twice (96 and 98-99). I will say a short prayer to those we lost on both deployments (one helo crash and a S-3 crash). Go fairly into the night old girl. Your journey is done and you can retire with dignity and a pride of a career very well served to our beloved nation. http://www.navytimes.com/news/2012/11/navy-enterprise-returns-home-final-deployment-110412/ |
