"I hear tell there was a football game this weekend (said in mybest Jed Clampett)" |
|
I am in agreement with all others on this board and think that the game was very poorly officiated and highly in FSU's favor. Both teams did get away with pretty obvious helmet to helmet hits. However, the worst in the moment call was the pass interference call against us as our defender (Purifoy I think) was being shoved to the ground. I did see replays on the one where it was overturned because they said foot was out of bounds. ABC showed 3 replays of that where I was watching (in Deltona at Beef O'Bradys). Two showed the foot in and one made it look out. I was thinking it should be "not clear evidence to overturn the call". The score should have been more in UF's favor if not for the refs. Now to our team. I said all along that we did not have the linemen type bodies that I think Muschamp wants. That this coaching staff has done a great job with this group and when they get the body types they want this will be a "Great wall of Florida" typ line. when the body types get here that I think they want I hope they have the brains, heart, desire and will power of this group of players. They are in their 3rd offense in 3 years, playing a style they were not recruited to and were banged up a lot of the year and went out and dominated a top ranked defense in the erector set with a dress. I thought Driskell played well and made some nice throws. Like others I think he needs to sometimes get rid of the ball quicker but he has made some great strides this year and has made many more good plays than bad. Receivers need work. We need help there. Reed is a match-up nightmare but does not have the speed to stretch the field. The others make a play here and there but not enough to keep defenses honest so defenses felt fairly safe stacking the box. All I can say about running backs is I am gonna miss Gilly. He never complained about his lack of playing time and he produced when he was in. However, I am looking forward to seeing more of Matt Jones. My 6'-4", 235 lb, size 17 shoe wearing 14 year old made the observation that he uses his blocks well. To which I whole heartedly concur. Of the defense I will only say this "Wow". What a dominating bunch. I think our linebackers are very good but I did not watch them much because my eyes kept getting drawn to the play on the line and the play of the DBs. Those units are exceptional. I think Pease was a home run hire. I think the sluggishness on offense had a lot more to do with the Jimmies and Joes than the Xs and Os. The new strength and conditioning coach has earned his stripes as well. If I do have a criticism of the coaching staff it is with the head coach. I do not mind Muschamps' approach of strong defense and special teams and mistake free offense but I do think in the long run he needs to open the offense up more. This is college football and young people playing it which means it is a volatile game. I am not saying he has to go all Air Coryell or 1990s Florida but we can't have another game like UGa where is was obvious what was going to happen. Again, maybe that is a Jimmy and Joe thing. Anyway, this team will go down as one of my favorites because they did better than anyone but Crazy Eddie thought they could. They did it doing it the way thier coach said they would do it. Most importantly, they did it without embarrassing the school. Even more than that, they did representing the University of Florida with dignity and class. |

We are moving towards a dictatorship of relativism, which does not recognize anything as definitive and has as its highest value one's own ego and one 's own desires.-Pope Benedict XVI THE YOUNG DEAD SOLDIERS DO NOT SPEAK Nevertheless they are heard in the still houses: who has not heard them? They have a silence that speaks for them at night and when the clock counts. They say, We were young. We have died. Remember us. They say, We have done what we could but until it is finished it is not done. They say, We have given our lives but until it is finished no one can know what our lives gave. They say, Our deaths are not ours: they are yours: they will mean what you make them. They say, Whether our lives and our deaths were for peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say: it is you who must say this. They say, We leave you our deaths: give them their meaning: given them an end to the war and a true peace: give them a victory that ends the war and a peace afterwards: give them their meaning. We were young, they say. We have died. Remember us. |
