"Is this the year the Heisman is for the best player on the best team?" |
|
Message Replied To ========== No offense to Johnny Football, but I hope Manti Te'o wins the Heisman. I was the first one here on the Johnny bandwagon - after our game in September I said he'd be a great one and a Heisman candidate next season - how wrong was that? LOL. He's been amazing and I have no problem if he wins.
But if I had a vote, I'd vote for Te'o. By all accounts he's a great kid, is without a doubt the heart and soul of the ND team. He has great defensive stats -- the first LB to get 7 INTs since 2000. Leads his team in tackles, fumble recoveries and INTS.
Johnny will have other opportunities to win it -- but Teo is someone you want to see join that fraternity. It's been a long time since a defensive player won it, and I think it's time again. Hope he wins. ==============================(1997-Charles Woodson, 2006-Troy Smith, 2003-Jason White, 1993-Charlie Ward, 1992-Gino Toretta) Or the year the team doesn't even need a winning record? (1956-Paul Hornung) Or the year that it's a career award? (1999-Ron Dayne) Or the year that it isn't a career award? (1997-Peyton Manning) Or the year a WR can't win it because he doesn't touch the football enough? (2003-Larry Fitzgerald) Or the year a WR can win it as long as he returns a kick for a TD? (1991-Desmond Howard) Or the year a defensive player can win it as long as he catches a few passes? (1997-Charles Woodson) Or the year a defensive player can't win it even if he catches even more passes? (1998-Champ Bailey) Or the year a sophomore can't win it? (1992-Marshall Faulk, 2001-Rex Grossman) Or the year a Sophomore can win it? (2007-Tim Tebow, 2008-Sam Bradford, 2009-Mark Ingram) Or the year that Clockwork doesn't give a #badword# because the award is a moving target that has lost most of its meaning?
