"I currently wouldn't favor a move to the ACC but.."

then again I wouldn't close my eyes and say no way, that's crazy. Personally, I believe the idea of aligning to a conference with greater academic respect has more appeal to the leadership of the university than one might imagine. Still, given that the President will soon be replaced, I seriously doubt there is the political will or vision to enact such a switch at this time. Another factor to seriously consider in the move is that the SEC now has the reputation nationwide of being a rogue conference, where all the members are cheaters (excluding Vanderbilt) and refuse to play by the rules...that we as a conference on whole have our priorities misplaced. Even though we as UF grads and fans take pride in the fact that we do our best to run a clean program, we still have our image tarnished by being in a conference with so many members on probation, recently on probation or soon to be on probation. I also have to wonder about the automatic rejection to consider a proposal because of tradition. It seems to me that the value of our tradition and rivalry has already been diminshed, first by the expansion of the conference to 12 teams, then by the subsequent realignment into divisions and finally by the change this coming season of playing only one permanent annual rival, thus eliminating our annual rivalry with Auburn (one of my favorite games). The way the league is aligned now we really only have "quality" rivalry games with Georgia and LSU. Tennessee is too new to be classified as a traditional rival and how many here consider Kentucky, Vanderbilt or South Carolina to be "rivals"? By making a move we'd also pick up a game with an old rival, Georgia Tech. One aspect of a potential move that really doesn't excite me is being in the same league as FSU and Miami. This is not because I despise them but because I prefer to have an identity separate from my Florida brethren. As someone posted below, the current landscape in college sports is changing. When you take the above and combine it with the general perception that many of the schools and fans in the SEC don't truly perceive us as real "southerners" and therefore we're looked upon like a step-child, no proposal should be summarily rejected without serious consideration. I currently would not favor a move but neither would I reject the propasal out of hand.
