"I love it. This law school dean doesn't realize it but he's a lot like those " |

Message Replied To ========== What especially bothers me about fear mongering, when taken to this level, is that it can be self-fulfilling. These words could be dangerous . . . is this a prediction or a warning? An observation or a call-to-arms? I am quite sure Staver didn't mean this as a threat but he is stirring emotions that could prove quite dangerous. It also bothers me that this guy is leading an accredited law program, but I suppose it could be reading too much to assume his beliefs on this are pressed onto students.============================== Japanese soldiers still manning their jungle island posts long after World War II ended. The gay marriage war is over and his side lost. He just doesn't know it yet. He thinks the enemy is the Supreme Court. He's wrong. His real enemy is the tide of public opinion which is rolling in at a hundred miles an hour. You don't have to be an expert futurist to read the rate that polls and debates are changing and realize the inevitable. Within twenty years, not only will gay marriage be accepted throughout America, but most people will not even be able to understand why grandpa thought it was a big deal in the first place. I like this guy. I don't mean personally, but as an advocate for the religious right. He has no idea that more and more people are rolling their eyes at talk like his and questioning if basing our values and our laws on what primitive people claimed to be inerrant truth two and three thousand years ago is a good idea. He is a better proponent of secular humanism than I'll ever be. We should buy him a megaphone. |
