"Many Presidents have acted outside their power . . . " |
Message Replied To ========== I don't really disagree. I'm just stating what I believe is the situation, not justifying it. Is Congress going to stop Obama's policy? Nope. Do I think that's right? Nope. If I was in Obama's shoes and letting some A-hole potentially slip through and kill innocent people because I wouldn't authorize a drone attack is on my conscious would I authorize that strike? Quite possibly. Do I think we should just trust presidents with this power and not worry that it could be used for much more nefarious purposes? Nope. For that matter, if I was some CIA interrogator and I thought this terrorist we were holding could lead us to bigger fish and save lives would I consider waterboarding him? Yup. Do I think we should make waterboarding legal? Nope. Your point on tyranny is well taken. I just find the both the issues and dynamics much more complicated. ==============================it is only recently that they began drafting papers to justify that power grab . . . and then passing this new power onto their successor. It is one thing for a President to act and claim I acted on this instance and here is why . . . but I know I was outside of my power . . . it is quite another for them to claim they are god and have the angels write the justification for being god. The danger here is not that Obama killed some dude in Yemen that he saw as a threat. The danger is that Obama claims he can kill any dude, any where and has his lackeys write a justification for it that so obviously flies in the face of the Constitution . . . he is claiming new power . . . not acting in the moment. And in this case he is claiming the most fundamental of all our liberties . . . he is claiming the right to kill me without any due process, for offenses that only he gets to see from his lofty chair. |
