"Huntington's disease. I had never heard of it until a couple of years ago...."

when a fellow high school classmate befriended me on facebook.  His wife of over 25 years has it, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntington's_disease)  and it seems that she is losing her battle with the disease as he has now had to call in Hospice.  God bless him, he is probably one of the most upbeat people on my FB!  He strives daily to stay upbeat, and is always posting words of encouragement to everyone else, posting about staying as young as you can, (he still skateboards and surfs) and posting pictures of some of the most gorgeous, serene, vacation spots in the world.  (I believe he escapes mentally in those pictures.)

Once her health declined so much that she could no longer take care of herself, he found a way to work from home, so he can take care of her.  He planned a vow renewal for them before their 25th because he didn't know that she would make it to their anniversary date.  He's posted pictures of the two of them in the past, and then recently, at their "wedding".  She's wheelchair bound and withered away to skin and bones.  She's withered mentally also, so I think his greatest hope was for her to know how much he still loves her.

It's been heartbreaking to follow him through his journey, but also extremely touching at the same time to see how strongly devoted he is to the love of his life.

Today, you can tell that he feels the end near.  He posted.....Since becoming a caregiver , I've learned to appreciate the little things in life more. I realize now that nothing is promised in this life ,everything can change in the blink of an eye ..

I guess the point of this post is to be a reminder that you never know what's around the corner. Life and love and love are precious things.  You never know when you're going to lose them.
