"Take him to Nashville and visit 10 or 12 restuarants"

Say your high school Jr. loves music, wants a career in music, (although he

doesn't exactly know what that career would be at this point), but you find out that he scored in the 95% in the country in science, with career recommendations from the Plan test that he should consider seeking a career in the medical profession, what do you do?

His less than brilliant counselor just gave him the results from Plan last week (that he took last year!) when he scheduled to take ACT.

Luckily, he loves a wide array of music, so it's not like his only goal is to be a rock star (NTTIAWWT), and I can see him writing music (the area I'm trying to nudge him towards right now), but he's great with people and it wouldn't be too shabby being able to introduce him as "this is our son, the Dr." one day. ;-)

How much would you try to sway your child at this point, or would you just sit back and let them make their own choices as they go forward?

and walk through the big hotels.

" Everyone you see today as a waiter, busboy, maid or desk clerk a) has a load of amazing musical talent and b) is hoping to turn that into a career.  Throw yourself into science and make music as a way to relax and recharge.  You have aptitude for science and that is the widest open door for your life. Music is fun now and should be but people who make a living at it work as hard at that as a scientist in a lab and most of the work is dull, repetitive and boring."

Most HS juniors like a lot of things that are not wise or right.  That is why they have parents who help them see another side and allow them short rides on the reality bus.
