"OK. I have no self control."

Since this is the gazillion and one I hate/love SOS thread, I hesitate to poast.

I've avoided 99% of them in the past.

I don't get it, and never have, why some are so adamantly anti-SOS. He is simply one of the greatest Gators ever. To think that he somehow has lost his love for UF is absurd. I don't need to recount the reasons, but I will, anyway. Let's see. He went to school here. He won a Heisman Trophy here. He met his wife here. His kids were born here. He came back and won National Championships. Just last week he spoke about how much Florida (the school and the State) mean to him. He mentioned most of the above. He still has his place in Crescent Beach. He said he has lived here longer than anywhere else and when he finally hangs it up, he's coming back.

Yes, he has a great sense of humor and wit. But, what always made him special, to the consternation of many, is he has always marched to a different drummer. Rarely any coach-speak. He actually could handle a loss with some grace and without it killing him (see Meyer for the converse). He needed to try something new after 12 years at UF. NFL didn't work and wasn't something that matched his personality.

So, he saw USC as something he could try to do where it had never been done before. And, frankly, he did it. He has taken them places they've not been before. I think his tenure at USC has been a smashing success. I don't like it anymore than the rest that he (USC) has become an impediment to UF. But, I don't hold it against him. Frankly, you've got to admire what he has done there....a much more difficult task than at UF, Bama or some others.

==============================

I am not adamantly anti-SOS.  I have love for him, and for what he did, that will never go away.  I cherish his time here and the memories and great times he brought upon us.

That being said, he is a selfish man with a humongous ego.  He quit his job without warning. Yes, he had a window during which he could terminate every year.  Exercising it via a phone call (on the way to the beach), was, IMO selfish.  He could have discussed it, he could have handled it much differently.

He chose to return to a team in our division...a team whose goals and objectives are adverse to ours.  A team who must, in order to thrive, dash the hopes and dreams of the University he claims to love.  He knew when he chose that job (and yes he could have chosen almost ANY job he wanted), he would be on the opposite sideline every year doing his best to snuff out our hopes and dreams.

And that's fine!  It's his right and that's great.  Just like it is your wife's right to divorce you and marry your cousin or your brother.  All is fair in love and football....but how anyone can be surprised that when he is carried off the field saying "God smiled on the Gamecocks" while we are crushed...that he will not be cherished as the Lord and Savior of Florida football.  He deserves the abuse he gets...and I think for the most part that abuse is relatively minimal and Florida fans are magnanimous and understanding.

And when he retires, there is little doubt all will be forgiven.  Or almost all, anyway.
