"Sorry but I have to grouse about the Tebow/Sanchez/Geno Smith situation" |
|
So Tebow is brought into the Jets organization and everybody is told he is the backup and Sanchez is the starter and that is reinforced time and again. Tebow is only a Wildcat change of pace guy and a punt protection and coverage guy and that is his annointed role, along with backup (only) QB. And that is exactly how it plays out, Tebow plays far less than expected and has little or no impact on a terrible season for the Jets and Sanchez. Tebow is obviously no threat to Sanchez and Sanchez gets benched, not for Tebow but ostensibly the 3rd team QB late in the season because Sanchez sucks so badly. This is somehow Tebow's fault, and in fact all the Jets struggles were Tebow's fault. Somehow the media and Tebow haters interepret this to be devastating to the confidence of Mark Sanchez and the Jets franchise and this is the worst move in the history of NFL football and Tebow should have been excommunicated from the NFL entirely instead. Tebow obviously cannot play QB in the NFL because he patiently accepted his role with the Jets, and somehow any success he had as the starting QB in Denver never really happened and the real Tim Tebow is the one who rarely played for the Jets. So in the interests of saving the franchise Tebow is cut and of course will never find his way onto an NFL roster again. No intelligent coach or GM would consider bringing Tebow the cancer anywhere near their NFL franchise. Lo and behold, one of if not the best NFL coaches picks up Tebow for practically nothing, and the speculation begins about what different position Tebow will play and how stupid Belichek is for taking Brady out of games on 3rd and 4th and short for Tebow and how he can't play TE and has no role with NE, and how he is wholly incapable of playing QB in the NFL. And further, he lacks the ability to improve in any meaningful way as a QB and under no circumstances will he make the Pats 53 man roster. He is a danger to the Patriots franchise and can and will bring the franchise to its knees in short ordered if allowed to hang around. The most successful coach in the game chuckles under his breath and clearly doesn't understand what the big deal is about his bargain basement 3rd team QB who can serve multiple roles in a pinch and will be allowed the time and training to actually learn the game as opposed to be being thrown in the fire and learning an offense on the run in the middle of the season, or as a backup QB getting limited reps and opportunity to develop timing and cohesion with his receivers. In the meantime, the Jets have drafted Geno Smith, a spread QB out of West Virginia who has no experience in an NFL style offense. He is brought in to compete with Sanchez and hopefully take the starting QB position, in stark contrast to how Tebow was to be used and considered. Somehow this is not threatening to Sanchez and will have no effect on the locker room and will create no divisiveness, even though the Jets center has already come out publicly in support of Sanchez. And I think it is relevant that Geno is a black QB and that could create a racial divide in the locker room, although I know I'm not allowed to say that so please forget I did. And somehow bringing in the great college spread QB Geno Smith is supposed to improve the situation wth the Jets and not undermine the confidence of Sanchez. And this all makes sense to the vast majority of the general public and 90% of the media and all are in full agreement and acceptance of everything I just posted, although it is somehow not really a story. Colin Cowherd, who makes the case that Tebow is mildly retarded and can't learn an NFL offense, and Merrill Hoge are the champions of the cause against Tebow. Trent Dilfer and all of ESPN and the NFL network outside of Skip Bayless are in complete agreement and chime in whenever possible to denigrate Tebow for the audacity to attempt to play QB in the NFL and ruin the New England franchise the way he ruined the Jets and Broncos. Not sure how you get there but I guess that is my question. What am I missing here? |
