"Anybody else following Tebow's progress in New England?"

Edited by Author at 8/4/2013 - 3:47 a.m.

I've been trying to follow it but it is difficult to try and sift through the tainted opinions of the writers to get a real picture of his progress in training camp.  Reading the different practice reports is hilarious as the bias of the individual wirters is readily apparent. It is like many of the Tebow threads on Gator sites, where his detractors seem to lack the ability to admit that he not only has been a starting QB in the NFL but is capable of playing the position and having some level of success.  Some of the writers extract as much of a negative slant from his practice performances as possible, focusing on any errors and glossing over or even omitting his positive plays.  One writer described his scrambing ability as "reckless", as if a mobile QB extending a play in training camp is some type of sin.

From what I gather, most have reluctantly agreed that Tim is almost certain to make the 53 man roster.  He is of course a work in progress because this is his first training camp with the Patriots and he has a lot of learning to do. He is not practicing as a TE or H back or fullback, which some people still can't seem to grasp.  He's taking his reps at QB with a few on special teams as the punt protector, a job he had with the Jets.  And the Patriots seem to like him.  At the end of the day he's a third team QB who can run zone read and spread option looks for the scout team.  He's an insurance policy to help 2nd team QB Ryan Mallett convert in short yardage situations should Tom Brady get injured.  He can play special teams if needed.  And he has a positive attitude and tremendous work ethic, and he exemplifies the Patriot Way.  I know it is deflating to admit that a Hall of Fame coach running the most consistent NFL franchise in the league thinks Tebow can play ball and doesn't buy into the negative spin cycle promulgated by the ESPN and NFL network talking heads and all their loyal minions. I guess it creates even more bitterness. And it shows.  But at least try and write an article that reports all the facts without a mangling bias. That's what a reporter is supposed to do.
