RE: He and Grier are critically important recruits

Grier for obvious reasons because we have nobody who can consistently get the job done at QB. Glad he is a coach's son because he should have a much better understanding of game management and ball security than Driskel.

Cook is a big time playmaker with breakaway speed. Looking back at the Miami film you can see some plays that he would have been able to make that our current RB's just don't have the explosiveness to make.  We have solid running backs and Matt Jones will be much better once he gets more reps and is game ready because clearly he is not yet.  But Cook is at a different level as a playmaker. He has incredible football speed.

==============================

a skinny true freshman from a small private school in North Carolina is going to get to Gainesville and suddenly and immediately uptick our quarterback situation next fall, you are very very sorely mistaken and in for a rude awakening.

This is two-pronged. First of all, Jeff Driskel isn't quite as awful, nor as irredeemable, as some of you guys make him out to be.  If/when we get the turnovers in check, the ship will be righted and the team will go on to win 9+ games.  Our defense is strong enough to keep us in every game we play, and the run game will be improving with healthier backs and (presumably)OL, which will lead the coaching staff to put less demanding situations on JD, which will in turn increase his confidence and success and very likely his and our production, which will in turn anchor him SOLIDLY as our starting quarterback.  That is what's going to happen from now until December, and which will carry over throughout the offseason.

Secondly, even if we had literally NO returning quarterbacks on scholarship, the odds of a skinny wide-eyed small-school true freshman from a weak conference in a non-premium state stepping in, taking the reins and immediately producing a substantial improvement in our field leadership are virtually nil, given the usual factors of (in)experience, chemistry, youth, etc, and combined with our staff's preference for experience and veterans.

It is just not going to happen.  So if i were you, i'd not only lose the fantasy of WG making everything all better in 2014, i'd try and find a way to embrace Jeff Driskel for the next two seasons, because he is our guy.
