"Random thoughts without having read the board today....." |
|
...so I'm sure some of this is going to be Teutonic. And this is without watching the TV replay yet. In no particular order..... 1. I thought the play selection was MUCH improved, and was pleasantly surprised how good it was after Driskel's injury. I thought Pease might dial it way back, but he didn't. We did run the much-maligned (and deservedly so) Wildcat once....and ran a wrinkle out of it. Even if it hadn't worked (which it did), I still would have liked that. 2. I really liked the way Murphy went through his progressions. When forced out of the pocket, he kept looking downfield. On at least one such occasion, he forced the defender to commit to the run threat which left the receiver open (I think the pass was dropped, BICBW). That is not something we've seen out of the QB position in a while. 3. Loved seeing Danny Wuerffel. That was great. 4. Kudos to ESPN for taking Gameday to Fargo. That was pretty darn cool. Brickbats to ESPN for not televising the game other than on ESPN3. On a day with a relatively light schedule of marquee games, one would think that could have at least made room on ESPNU, maybe even for a prime-time telecast. Those kids practice hard too. 5. The Swamp got more energized as the game went on. Good to see, feel and hear. Watching the O as of late has been a bit like visiting the dentist without anesthesia, but as the game wore on, that feeling finally went away, hopefully for a lonnnnnnng time. The two long TD drives in the 2nd half were things of beauty. Red zone production was a thing of beauty. The int return was a thing of comedy possibly thrown in for anyone that was nostalgic for the first half follies, but at least we scored anyway. And speacking of energized, the Gators seemed to become more energized as the game went on as well. 6. The UT O-line might be one of the better ones we see this year. And the D still shut them down (I don't count the late 2nd half stuff since we were so dinged/DQ'd in the secondary by that point). 7. Vernon Hargreaves III. My goodness. Marcus Roberson/Watkins/Purifoy need to be ready for a lot of balls thrown in their direction, because nobody is going to be throwing at VH III. 8. Overall, optimistic and excited to see what this edition of the Gators can do going forward. Best wishes for a healthy recovery for Jeff Driskel. |
