"I read it. Really the same issues that are hurting attendance in all demos." |
|
Message Replied To ========== That increases the chance that guys like you and me.... will spend the money and make the drive to attend. It doesn't really increase student interest in going in the game rather than watching from a TV 200 meters outside the stadium. Did anybody actually read the article!? ==============================the TV watching experience is great, almost all the games are on TV, people don't want to be bothered with the hassle of game day, its expensive, smartphones don't work during the game, etc. I think back to when I actually remember starting attend Florida games with my family (I went quite a bit that I don't remember when I was even younger), and it was that early experience that cemented my love of The Gators and college football. At the time, my parents were quite a bit youger than I am now, so they were going for the weekend, sometimes just a Saturday, and it was about hanging out with the people they went to Florida with. Everyone seemed old to me and their college experience seemed like the distant past, but I realize now that they had been in school there not too long ago - funny how that perspective changes. Anyway, I was exposed to this whole culture and all of these people that were close to my parents, several whom are part of this virtual community today. The whole drill - wake up early Saturday, make the drive, arrive at one of my Dad's FratBro's houses, hang out, chuck the football in the yard, head to the stadium, do some more hanging out, watch the game (that first whiff of bourbon when you walked in was what signaled to me that we were gonna watch The Gators!), then back to the house after, lots of people over, all folks my parents knew, their kids as well, THEN you watched football on the TV. I think that's a big part of what is missing from this generation of college football watchers, that familal, cultural connection to something that can happen before you actually show up for school. Bottom line, it's just not a part of people's lives as much anymore, IMO, it is just entertainment.
