"Observations on the commentary I see here (fairly brief)" |
|
The ring of negativity and chaos that I have seen here the past couple of weeks, and which peaked last night and today (I guess) is reminiscent of my view of FSU's situation, beginning in the Chris Rix years, otherwise characterized by JimmyV as the "Nle Era." There is nothing more frustrating than seeing what appears to be blatantly obvious cures for the woes occurring on the field (and off the field) that are seemingly being ignored by the coaches, particularly coming on the heels of much success. So I feel the pain there. The only wisdom I can impart is that I, for one, lost touch during the bad times of the reality that the coaches and administrators really do have keen awareness of the importance of getting it right, even MORE so than the fans do. Their jobs are on the line (and rightfully so), and sometimes I allowed myself to lapse into the thinking that since the coaches and admins weren't implementing MY sure-fire cures on O, on D and on STs, then they don't care. This is untrue, of course, although it it very hard to warm up to that reality when the losses pile up and hair pulling strategies are employed on the filed. The other thing that I see in the commentary here which caused me to make this post is the view among many here that the fall from grace and winning and championships and being talked about nationally has been so steep and so nasty, that recovery to the prior lofty heights will take FOREVER, or at least MANY, MANY years. This is or at least could be, untrue. College football isn't the NFL, where it takes quite a while for teams to significantly upgrade and recycle players. I know that during the Jeffie Bowden years, I too, felt it would be forever, if then, for the team to get back into the limelight. The reality is that a couple of key recruits and generally good classes for a couple of years, plus a little fortune on the field, and you're right back in the game. It has happened over and over to countless teams: They are ok; then they are great; then they are lean; then they are ok again; then they are playing past New Years Day again. And it doesn't take lifetimes. Just a couple of years or sometimes less. It's a big cycle. I see the pain in this house and fully understand it. I'm just guessing the cycle will continue to exist and in a year or so, the talk will return to: "wow, 2013 sucked, but it's great to be back on track." Or words of similar effect. I know, I've been there. Cheers, and I hope you win (most) of the rest on the schedule. BN |
