I have a sentimental place for the week before the FSU game. For the past few years, this non-conference game has been against so called "lesser" opponents. But the weather is usually nice and cool, its easy to get good seats for the kids, and people aren't as on edge (i.e. rude fan behavior) as some the more contested games.
The first time I took my kids to this game they were so young that they didn't know who the opponent was, didn't care about Gators' record, didn't care about where UF was ranked (or rather wasn't because we weren't ranked), they were just stoked to be in Gainesville, throwing the football before the game, decked out in Orange & Blue and screaming their little heads off for their beloved Gators.
Looking forward to doing it again this weekend.
The kids are older now (8 and 10) and they know this hasn't been a good year for the Gators. But they are still stoked to go. My 8 year old reminded me of the game about 2 weeks ago. ("We're seeing the Gators before Thanksgiving, right Dad?"....bless his little heart).
My plan is roll into Gainesville mid morning, set up a grill, have a beer and throw the ball with my kids. Some of their little buddies will be meeting us there. Good times will result and memories will be made.
My prediction for game day and week running up to it is "sunshine!"
Go Gators! Pick up this win this weekend and then prepare for shock the world on Nov. 30.
