" Don't disagree in principle, but in 50 years of following my Gators, I've never" |
|
Message Replied To ========== "Wait 'til next year!" I'm hopeful that Gator Nation will reinstate its former "wait 'til next year" attitude instead of the "I can't stand the prospect of losing" attitude. To me, the basis of this attitude wasn't just a deflection of the current state toward some unknown promise of the future. Instead, it was a sentiment that the current team fought like hell and competed their hearts out, and with that and some good luck, we'll be back with a fury at the next opportunity to beat you. Why am I posting this? Because I'm getting the feeling that people here are losing perspective of how to enjoy Gator football even when the team has lost. Granted, some go into 3 to 5 days of depression after each and every loss, but I'm talking about after that initial bout with disappointment. Gator fans of the past rallied around the team's effort and their positive accomplishments. I know that some of these games don't exemplify a strong effort and a heart and will to win, and I know that there is question about the true heart of this team. However, I also know that this attribute will not remain. Everyone should expect the Gators to regroup with whatever they have and compete their butts off, and everyone should look forward to cheering this hard-working Gator team, no matter what the hand-tied situation might or might not be with our coaching. What I'm saying is please remember the meaning of urging your team to its foregone conclusion of a hard-fought battle every game, win or lose, and expect that to resume this week or next year at the latest. But no matter the outcome this week, look forward to next year! ============================== seen a team this bad. Never. Not the late 80's during probation, not 1979, not under Dickey, not under Zook ... Never. Further, I've never seen a UF team display, on multiple Saturdays, an apparent lack of desire to be on the field. The cry of "Wait 'til Next Year" always carried a passionate desire AND the knowledge that the team was doing its best, even if there were coaching or psychological hurdles. This is not to suggest giving up on my Gators. It is to be blunt and state that, while I'll pull for the guys in Orange & Blue, I honestly don't harbor any misconceptions that it will get much better next year. Hopefully, I am surprised. But until I see it from Muschamp and his team, my cry has become "Show Me You're Trying to Get Better". |
