For quick anecdotal evidence, remember Tim Tebow?

He was arguably the best QB to play for Florida in the past 15 years. His sophomore year was so great that people were wondering outloud whether the Gators would ever have a game where we didn't beat our opponents by greater than 2-3 touchdowns and average 50+ points per game.

The reality is, we didn't. The reality is, with Tebow, we were hardly invincible and he played four years.

The same is true of football teams in general.

The only season that matters is this season.

There have been far too many examples of teams looking like they were on an upward curve only to fail horribly the following season and vice-versa. With teams losing 15-20 players every year, anything can happen.

No team is really ever more than two years away from anything.
