" So I talked to my daughters about this last night ... " |
|
Message Replied To ========== It's a Bill Brasky piece. It was written in unicorn blood. * ============================== My youngest just hears from the boys in her class that he is "Famous Jameis" and that my niece - an FSU student, tall, model-esque niece (see her here: http://postimg.org/image/qimf7611z/962833f4/ )knows him ... walks into the room while I am catching that JW won the heisman. And asks "just like tim tebow?" and we have a little bit vague discussion that JW was accused of "hurting a girl" .. and on and on. She asks "why isn't he in jail then?" so a lovely saturday evening suddenly became serious. Serious about what happens when a boy does thing a girl shouldn't allow. And about being careful. And having friends around. It's a discussion we have had with our kids before. So we had it again, with a pic of a guy on screen this time as an example. So, F$U fans and JW apologists, just know that guys like me- and they are LEGION- are using your beloved QB as a cautionary tale to teen girls all over the country. Facts like this need no highlighting or embellishment: " The sexual assault nurse notes some redness on knees and top of her left foot. She also noted brown bruises on left knee and on her right elbow ... the pink shorts gave chemical indication for the presence of blood." You know, just like how most "dates" end - with a nurse. Right JW? What went through her head as she dialed her mommy and daddy's number? Shame? Dread? Fear? Worry that a dad who tried to raise his daughter right had been failed by his little girl? Or horror? Waiting for the family to pick up that phone? Sitting in a room with a nurse, or worse- alone - in a medical facility, bright lights, and you - inside - all alone? Knowing that dad would drive 100 mph - and risk his own life- to try to protect his little girl? The worst thing? The shame. The shame that swirled around her. The shame she has as she sits with when mommy and daddy and family opens Christmas presents in about 10 days. The shame that no amount of soap can wash away, right JW? The shame that she will carry because she perhaps was caught a little awestruck. I could not mention that to my youngest because I'd scare her a little too much. I could only say "she did something she will regret for a long time" Are you proud JW? Are you proud that this girl was pressured by an entire community? And make no mistake - she was. And that she had to walk into classes, or outside, and risk seeing you? And that she laid her head down the night after it happened, seeing your face in her mind's eye? Did the image of this girl appear in JW's mind last night as he stood there, basking in the adulation of former winners? Did he think about her? I did. Sitting there, getting sick to my stomach that there- but for the grace of god- could have been my niece at a party at F$U a little star struck, innocent, trusting, falling for whatever lines JW wanted to feed her at a party. I didn't talk to my youngest about those things. Because they haunt me even this morning, as I sit in my office trying to work, while thinking about the innocence of my kids. The worst part? My older daughter all ready knows about what happened. And that is a discussion for another day. |
