"Rant alert...." |
|
So Peyton Manning throws a pass on 2nd down on Denver's final drive of this game that is too low and behind the Broncos' receiver, and is thus incomplete. Phil Simms informs us that was the only place Manning could throw it because he couldn't risk the ball "popping up" (or some similar nonsense). Can you imagine what Simms (or just about any other "expert" analyst) would have said if Tebow had been the QB and thrown that exact same pass in that exact same situation? I can. And it wouldn't have been very nice. I don't know that Tebow could be successful in the NFL, but I believe in the correct system (and without every coach in the world trying to "fix" him) he could have been. And he may be still, but at this point it's doubtful. Frankly, I don't think many in the NFL wanted him to succeed. And he never received a fair chance as a result. And that's what this rant is about: fairness. I'll add that Peyton likely would have taken issue with Simms' "analysis". He knew he threw a pass that was just a hair off and it told in his own body language. This rant is not directed at Manning - he's one of the best QB's to ever play the game.
