The military budget must be decreased because tax revenues are down in a #badword#ty economy. More people also need welfare because of that same #badword#ty economy. 

Besides it's not really apples to apples. Military people have a good job and salary and they are simply talking about reducing some of the ancillary extra benefits. Welfare recipients are just looking for the most basic subsistence. You have likely experienced that civilian government employees have faced more reductions in total compensation than the military. That would seem to be in accordance with your philosophy.   

22% of children in America are in poverty. That's not the country I signed up to defend. The social safety net is more necessary than ever. 

What welfare recipients need above all else are jobs. You don't get jobs by spending more government money. Spending more government money gets you more welfare recipients.
