Message Replied To ========== I just read on ESPN.com comments that Gators suck and have no chance. Crap * ============================== You look at the history of college basketball from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. You have schools in the Big 10 doing well. You have schools out west doing well. Basically, tradition starts where the money flows. After the traditional powerhouse teams got established, it's near impossible to wrestle that status away from them. North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, UCLA, etc, etc, etc All these programs have is basketball. Sure, they have some flash-in-the-pan moments in other sports, but they're basketball traditions that were built over the past 40-50 years. We beat Kentucky in a basketball championship game. Dude. We beat Kentucky in a championship game that involved f##king basketball -- the only mother f##king sport they do. Period. The only sport they do. UCLA? We beat them in two final four games in the past 10 years. Twice. In 2000, we beat North Carolina in the final four. The only sh#t they do, we beat them. Florida. The University that had emmitt smith, wilber marshall and steve spurrier. Florida. The the past ~20 years, since 1994's Final Four team, we've been in the basketball conversation. The fact that ESPN is talking about us in a basketball conversation where we are the favored to win it all? Dude. We're already won. This is awesome. How many teams in the past 30 years have gone from obscurity to be in the national conversation every year? It's literally just been us and no one else. So, yeah, I consider this a victory already. The tournament is just gravy. |
