aside from your knee-jerk need to cry waaaaaaacism! at every turn.....

I don't think he should just get off scot free.  He committed a serious violent crime.  Take into account the fact that he has straightened his life out?  Certianly!  Give him a seriously reduced sentence like 1 or 2 years and probation instead of 13 years...but no, I don't think he should just walk away from this with no jail time.

and it has proven largely a magnificent waste and failure. There's no purpose in jailing someone for mistake they made as a young adult when they have proven in the 15 years since to be a productive law abiding citizen. Other than maybe some dumb lust for vengeance. We don't have time for that! Heck, if I had been the victim in this crime, I'd be over it by now. 

Oh and the justice system discriminates on race and socioeconomics whether you acknowledge it or not....
