"Race relations are better now than they ever have been....." |
|
Message Replied To ========== Had a brief chat with my youngest son the other day about politics and race. He is 23 and has 1 1/2 yr old son. He dropped out of college and is working full time now and is paying more attention to politics and what is going on in the world. Said he listens to NPR everyday. Anyway we were working in the garden and just talking about politics and the like and then the topic of race came up. He made the comment that now all of his black friends make race an issue when it never was before. I told it was probably because, like you they were becoming more aware of the world around them. I also said that was the one thing I was most disappointed in Obama. He had the pulpit but instead of helping the country put it behind us, he has given more fuel for those like Al Sharpton who at least partially play the race card to keep themselves in the spotlight and getting paid. It really kind of upset him to hear some of things these guys were saying. You have to understand he has known, and been friends with probably more blacks than whites. As far as who would come over to the house when he was in high school it was mostly black friends. Ok with us, as our only concern was were they good kids and most of his friends were. I said all of that to ask this, where do you see race relations in this country at this time? Try to check your political tripe at the door and just make comments that promote the discussion. but racism will always be a human problem and the struggle against it will always continue, especially in a country as diverse as the United States. People are insecure and easily influenced to see something that makes them feel superior. That is what fuels racism. |
