DJ is paying for coverage he doesn't use right now (kids' dental, birth control pills, etc) in order to subsidize those costs for people who do use them. It all goes into the same pool.

It is paying for things he will never be at risk for. The ACA changed the very definition of "insurance".

Insurance used to mean pooled risk. We all paid in to a fund in case something bad happened to us, whether that be cancer, heart attacks, or collisions in the case of auto insurance. Those who did not suffer the catastrophic event lost premium money because they never got a payout and in doing so, they subsidized those who did.

But Obama and the left changed that dynamic. They have decided to use "insurance", not for pooled risk, but to prepay healthcare and spread cost out even for things most will never be at risk for . They defend this by claiming "preventive care" saves money..yet they take that decision away from the plans and mandate it. Worse yet, they redefined many things as "preventive care" for political expediency and without solid evidence of cost saving.

This would be similar to mandating auto insurance to pay for oil changes and new tires on your car. As those who have ever looked at those offers from car dealers know, such "prepayment " is always more costly in the long run because of the markup placed on it.

Those of us who are not getting ACA subsidies are paying significantly higher insurance premiums to bear these "prepayments". And the left has the arrogance to claim I have "better" insurance now because I can get IVF and birth control despite being limited in my cancer care.
