"I've been very clear..."

Very compelling read about gun-control....

I haven't mentally digested it enough to say I agree with all of it but he does explain well why I don't see gun-control as feasible or practical for the United States.

that I am not anti-gun.

But I am anti gun activist.

Yet, I am also not a big fan of the other side either.

Like you, I don't see gun-control as a possibility in this country. Why? Because both sides are unreasonable.

The anti-gun group want to go too far. This country was built by people who had guns. Guns are not going anywhere, America is too obsessed with them (whether that is a good or bad thing is not the issue). And when anti-gun regulations live up to the fear-mongering from the gun activist camps, those regulations harm the cause for reasonable gun limits.

Yet, the gun activists also go too far. Their ridiculous fear mongering and refusal to go along with even the most innocent and nonthreatening of gun control is beyond defense. They constantly rely on the slippery slope argument and cite to every type of registration or regulation as "the first step the Nazis took when they seized power"...or some other misconception.

So both sides suxes. Big time.

Let me explain the extent of my views of guns. I have always owned guns. My house has had them since I can remember. I learned to shoot as a child. I learned to be responsible gun owner from my father.

As a citizen of this country, I believe it is fair to EXPECT responsible gun ownership. I LOATH any threats to regulations that require gun owners to be responsible. That is why I have such contempt for gun activists.

At one time, I admit to wanting "assault rifles" removed from the streets. I no longer hold that view. Instead, I want them controlled for. In fact, I want EVERY gun registered. We have to register vehicles, why not guns? Spare me the "they'll round them up" bull#badword#. IF the black helicopters come for you guns, they can do that without a registry and your tinfoil hats won't protect you.

I want registration (which is already required) because I want a way to track guns involved in crimes. In fact, I want to make the possession of an unregistered gun a felony. Own whatever you type of gun you want, but do it the right way, and be responsible.

That way, if a gun is used in a crime, then we can hold the gun owner accountable. And if you repeatedly have your guns taken from you, then you are not a responsible gun owner and (at some point) should lose the right to own guns.

Regulations can and should exist that protect REASONABLE gun owners. But REASONABLE gun owners need to get out of the way of regulations aimed at unreasonable gun owners.

Leave the actual guns alone. Regulate the people and their ownership of guns. That's my take.
