I posted this on FB earlier, but I am committed to being a real pest about this all the time, but especially on 6/25!
Two years ago today, I went in for my first colonoscopy, to check on something unusual found during a routine checkup. The doctor found a colorectal tumor, which started a treatment process that lasted a year, with full chemo, radiation and surgery. Today I am showing no signs of recurrence but try to take nothing for granted. I was fortunate that I had the colonoscopy when I did, because I got treated relatively early in the cancer's development. Part of the reason that colon cancer can be so deadly is that you don't even know you have it until it's too late.
The bottom line is, GET YOUR COLONOSCOPY. Regularly. Don't put it off. If you're anywhere near 50, get your ass (pun intended) to the doc's and get it done. It's a small inconvenience that could save your life.
