A question for you. You stated the NRA has strayed from the purpose of upholding the 2nd amendment. How so?==============================

...they have strayed from their original purpose, which really has nothing to do with the 2nd ammendment. They were proponents of markmenship, education and training of firearms. My earliest memories of the NRA were sponsored shooting competitions for kids/teens.  I think they have been involved with politics before, but it was usually writing laws for gun-control.  At some point, they went far right-wing crazy on going against any discussion on gun-control, even if it sounds sensible (background checks at gun-shows?).  I think they would do themselves a big favor if they hire some better PR people and act like they are interested in what they were originally intended: good, responsible, sane gun ownership.
