Not only do I disagree with the statement that the masses are not to blame, but IMO so long as we place fault on "those people in government", we will fail to fix the problem.

Stupid reactions like this are simply the inevitable response to the public outcry for "those people in government" to better prevent mass killings in response to previous incidents where the rough equivelent of some guy posting scary lyrics did shoot up a school.  The mob doesn't consider the consequences of its instructions to government because the mob doesn't hold itself accountable.  It just careens from one overreaction to another.

We have the government we asked for.  We just don't want to admit it.
