downright mean and venomous tone I see from fans towards their own (college) team and players.  I see it on Facebook and in person at business conventions and other events in which I find myself around fellow fans.  

People, and often people who couldn't name three players on the team, are just so freakin harsh, negative, etitled, angry, and generally brutal in their criticisms of the kids and the coaches.   There is a certain barbarism veiled in the cloak of something called passion that is so off-putting to me on a human level.

I think I may be more sensitive to it as a result of years of hearing surprising stories about who this particular little forum has reached...as I have said here before it's probably why I may go a little further in my efforts to not allow this place to become overly acerbic in direct attacks on players and coaches.

But I think some people just need to remind themselves of how they would feel if their kids, relatives, or family friends were the ones who dropped a pass, missed a kick, or just didn't cut it on the field and govern their own behavior accordingly.
