I was going to focus on the potential change at QB and what UF might do going forward. Events have derailed that direction so it didn't seem worth while this week to do a key stats post. But here it is anyway, football only post...

Player participation: UF used 52 players (a season low). Only 7 offensive linemen saw the field in the UT game. Some guys who normally have been in the rotation did not play due to injuries or maybe other reasons; Fulwood, Orr-injury, Powell-injury, Taylor-injury, Savory, Sharpe, Herndon-out for the year.

Dawson and Tabor made their first career starts. I think Tabor was co-SEC Freshman of the week. Cox had the first 3 sack game for UF since 2009 (Dunlap vs MSST). Dunbar caught a pass for the 32nd game in a row.

Efficiency: the UF offense continues to go in the wrong direction. For the game UF ran a successful play (defined as at least 4 yards on first down, 50% of yards needed on second down, and picking up the first on 3rd or 4th down) on 31 of 71 snaps (not counting kneel downs) or 43.7%. On run plays UF was successful 22-45 or 48.9%, on pass plays 9 of 26 for 34.6%.

With Harris UF ran a successful play on 11 of 18 snaps.

UF ran the ball on first and 10- 11 straight times to end the game.

On first down UF ran athe ball successfully on 11-22 plays for 124 yards and passed successfully on 4-8 plays, but only for 26 yards.

UF passing on first down continues to be a disturbing trend:

EMU 7-21 success 79 yards

UK 7-14 success 84 yards

UA 4-9 31 yards

UT 4-8 26 yards.

Totals 22-52 success 42.3% 4.23 yards per play. The willingness to throw on first down appears to be eroding as the season goes on.

F/+ Combined ranking has UF at #50, S&P+ has them at #52.

S&P+ offense ranks #61, #103 in success (Oh no the return of 100+ ranking on offensive categories). #117 in passing.

S&P defense has UF at #45, #61 in success, #26 against the run.

Old fashioned Total Offence UF ranks #76 at 405 yds per game, passing yards per game #85.

Total Defense is at #51. A very respectable #15 against the run.

Turnovers: for the game it was 3-3. Three fumbles hit the ground and UF got two of them. For the season UF ranks #4 in turnover margin at +2 per game.

The defense has created 15 turnovers.

Red Zone: Probably the key stat for this game. UT had 4 trips inside the red zone and only had 3 FGs to show for it, the other trip ended in an INT.

UF made one trip to the red zone and scored a touchdown.

For the seaon UF opponents have scored on 9-11 red zone trips but only 4 have been touchdowns. Only 1 rushing TD allowed.

Time of possession UF 31:30 but 17:24 in the second half.

Field Position: UF average was their own 30, UT average was their own 30, so a wash here, except the UT averaged their own 18 for the entire first half.

UF net punting was only 35.2 but 5 punts were inside the 20. UT net punting was 43.0. Christy did not have a great day and his last punt was poor but at least he did not boom punts into the end zone.

UF had 2- three and outs, UT had 4- three and outs.

UF controlled field position in the first half, and the clock during the second half, which kept UF in the game. Ahhh the return of murderball- you have to love it.

The 9 point comeback was the 2nd best road comeback since 1966.

UF won by scoring only 10 points, the fewest points in a win since 1968.

Factoring in sacks UT ran the ball 29 times for 28 yards.

UF now leads the alltime series vs UT in Knoxville 12 to 11 (25-19 overall).

Driskel. What to do? I was thinking that there was potential going forward with Jeff running a wildcat package for a series or two (a wildcat back with the threat to pass). Maybe short yardage situations. I mean really using two QBs to maximize the potential of your roster. oh well.

In 14 games vs Power 5 teams (not counting UT last year), this is the average Driskel game:

15 completions in 25 attempts, 158 yards 1 TD and 1 INT. I think UF would take that average stat line now given the past two games. Driskel also gives you 31 yards on the ground (after sacks).

Even boosting Driskel up to his average doesn't seem very promising for the future.

For this season Driskel is averaging 5.0 yards per attempt. Going back to 1960- only one other season has UF QBs averaged less than 5.0 yards per attempt and that was in 1968.

Adjusted yards per attempt in at 3.78, the worst since 1979.

UF- LSU is going to be brutal to watch- unless you enjoy offensive ineptitude.

maybe the first team to actually hit a fly pattern will win the game 7-0.

On Gameday, Tebow mentioned that Driskel was 3-23 on passes that traveled at least 15 yards down field. I don't think it got any better during the UT game.

Austin Hardin before the UT game was 4-13 in his career on FG attempts.

vs UK the season came down to Driskel completing a 4th and 9 pass into the end zone for a tying TD in the first OT. UF won in triple OT.

vs UT the season might have come down to Hardin making a 49 yard FG. UF won 10-9.

UF was a fraction of a second away from delay penalties on both plays.

If UF has to win games facing those type of odds, I wonder about the rest of the season.

Before Monday I was hoping maybe 7-4, maybe 5-3 in the SEC. If things broke right maybe a massive tie breaker in the SECE would favor UF. Who knows.

What has to happen for UF to win games? We need 3+ turnovers every game, the defense needs to stand on its head. At least so far it has been a season of upsets.
