Let me be more specific, YES!!! (emphatic yes) to the idea that we did exactly what we needed to do in order to win the game. I don't care that we only threw 6 passes. Not at all. We found something that worked and stuck with it, and protected the ball in the process. Kudos to the staff and players.

With that out of the way, some here have suggested that Saturday's performance: 1. provides a platform for how we can/will beat FSU; AND, 2. establishes proof that we have the "foundation for our future offense" in Summers and Roper.

That win does neither; it was an anomaly.

Winning games with no passing attack is an unsustainable approach.

Now don't get hypersensitive and go all uber fanboy/girl with those two points.

Neither I, nor anyone else, is suggesting that UF will not have tremendous success going forward with a run-based attack behind talented backs like Jones and Taylor.

Furthermore, NOBODY has suggested that we can't run on FSU.

The point is that we will not feast on a consistent diet of wins in which we do not have to throw the ball.

That is what is unsustainable.

Pushing the notion forward that UF has "solved" it's offensive problems based on Saturday's performance is ridiculous. We have a sample size of 1 that stands in stark comparison to 3+ years of abysmal offensive production.

Let me use an analogy that is not perfectly analogous...generalizing and extrapolating too much from Saturday's performance would be very similar to Georgia Southern doing the same with its performance against UF last year.

Remember that game? The one in which GSU racked up 400+ yards of offense and only threw the ball 2 times?

Do you think GSU would be able to repeatedly line up against UF, even last year's injury depleted squad, and win like that consistently?

Hell no. If that game were played 9 more times, I predict that even last year's UF would probably win all 9 of those games.

That is not to say that UF couldn't beat UGA consistently if we played them again.

No. Again hold the hypersensitivity...

What I am typing is that neither GSU NOR UF would be able to repeat those exact performances again. I do NOT think we could beat UGA again by only running the ball and throwing only 6 passes. We caught UGA off guard and the same can be said for GSU last year with us.

Our offense MAY be headed in a better direction. Our run-heavy attack MAY produce wins against our remaining opponents. But we will NOT continue to win games exactly like that.

Why is that so inflammatory and difficult to understand.

The UGA win was TREMENDOUS for Muschamp. It was a foundational win that could help him IF he can connect it with wins against ALL of our remaining opponents. And yes, it is possible for him to do just that.

Even the most skeptical of skeptics SHOULD be able to recognize the basis for optimism and the shred of hope...two things that were almost completely missing just last week.

But let's not get carried away here.

Also, let's recognize that the win against UGA was a great win that could give us confidence moving forward in regards to our rushing attack. But it is not an approach that is sustainable. The run-heavy attack...yes. The complete absence of a passing attack, no.

After all, this isn't the 1930s.

anywhere else is going to determine whether he keeps Muschamp or not. So if we want to get giddy about beating Georgia and have confidence that we can beat FSU, that is our business. You said it yourself, that no one is suggesting this is a sustainable offense. I just don't think the Georgia game shows complete incompetence in the passing game. We don't know what we have with Treon in there yet.

I choose to be optimistic. I don't need to predict losses for Florida, I am not putting money on these games. I choose to predict wins. Before Saturday, I didn't think this team had it in them to put together a complete game. Now I know that it is possible, that they have not given up on the coach and we have an offensive line that can at least run block. So lets just see how the season plays out instead of predicting gloom and doom. Which, as we all know, could be right around the corner.
