"The truth is somewhere in the middle. Spurrier doesn't get enough credit for his impact beyond FB "

Some where down below there is a thread by Donna supporting her boss, Jeremy F .

I congratulate her for standing behind her boss and all those board members who supported Donna and rallied behind Jeremy.

However, I have been a gator fan for since the mid 50's. For years we had up and down seasons, only a few that were really good until 1960 when Ray Graves had a pretty good decade  and then the 1980'swith PellHall years when we had a few straight years of success.

Until 1990 we had never had a long time winning record nor had we won a SEC championship (except 1984 which was taken away).

Beginning in 1990 and lasting until 2001 we won over 80% of our games and won 6 SEC championships and finished first in 1990 plus one MNC.

Since 2002 our winning percentage has dropped to the 60+% level. We have 2 Sec championships and 2 MNC's. We have not strung together 10 ? straight years of 9 victories. We have regressed to the pre 1990's up and down seasons.

This has all been on JF"s watch. So Support him if you wish I do not.

Not to mention Women's basketball and Men's baseball coaching choice mistakes.

Billy has been his shinning star, but he has made so many mistakes in other sports.

==============================

I get that Jeremy Foley has been an outstanding AD. There is no one I would like to be our AD more. But this notion that the AD should get all the credit for the success of the athletic programs but not the short comings of the coaches he hires is far fetched.

And while we are on the subject of credit, it is no coincidence that Steve Spurrier came to UF in 1990 and UF has had a perennially top ranked all around sports program since then.

UF added 21,000 seats to the Swamp when Spurrier was coach. Oh, and he also christened the Swamp the Swamp. All home games were sold out while Spurrier was the coach. His teams went 68-5 at the Swamp over 12 years. (By way of comparison, our current coach is 2-6 in his last 8 games at the Swamp).

As a result of Spurrier's success, donations to the UAA boomed, donations to the University increased dramatically, applications soared and non-revenue sports received money to build the best facilities in the country.

3 years after Spurrier left UF, the program he built was still of such a stature that a 41 year old hottest coach in country named after a Pope spurned Notre Dame in favor of UF. That would have been unthinkable in 1989. And we know what happened next.

So, yes, Foley has done a great job since 1992. But he got one hell of an assist from Steve Spurrier.

And this means that Foley, of all people, knows the importance of hiring the right coach for the single most important sport, by far, at the University of Florida.
