The tug is now between CSU and its ball coach. If he continues to push for the move, CSU will come back to the table. If they don't, UF will eventually cave. And by eventually, I mean before this weekend is over.

So with that out of the way, let's get down to the business of how this perceived fiasco could help UF.

Not all within the Gator Nation is thrilled by this hire. We entered the process with sugar plum hopes of a BIG splash hire, and McElwain is more like a ripple. But the delay has given our base more time to learn about Coach Mac and how he is a solid candidate. But most importantly, our anxious and impatient base is freaked the F out at how the negotiations have dragged, even though the process is actually on course.

Not just that, but now there is talk of Nebraska and Michigan snooping around. All of a sudden, our plan B looking hire is moving up in class rank.

This is good because when he signs, the Nation will feel like it stole something, that we came away with a prize. Never mind that Nebraska's next guy is probably Frost and UM is dreaming of its Michigan man, the fact that both probably are looking at Coach Mac is all the base needs to feel better about our "stand up double" of a hire.

Now keep in mind that this post is 100% focused on perception, which has little to do with the actual quality of the core product...but can still influence the commercial success of said product. Coach Mac may be the best coach to ever wear O&B, but if the fans aren't behind the hire, his job is made more difficult.

So by building Gator Nation up into a feeding frenzy, Foley has increased the strength of the ripple, almost to the point of splash.
