Adding up the passing stats in total each year from 2011-2014, this is Florida's passing game ranks:

Attempts per game: #114 at 24.8 per game

Yards per game: #117 170.51 per game

Completion Pct:  #63 59.26%

Pct of passes that ended in a TD: #95 4.36%

Pct of passes that ended in an INT: Also #95 3.29%

Yards per attempt: #78  6.88 yards/att

Adjusted Yards per Att (yds+(20*TD)-(45*INT)-(Sack yds))/ Att: #97 AYA is 5.96yds/att.

AYA is a good stat that tends to weed out the teams that just throw and throw. Given the rules that favor offense and that passing plays on average gain more yards than running plays, good teams tend to excel in AYA.

The top offensive teams in AYA from 2011 to 2014 are:

Baylor, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, FSU, and USC.  Boise St is a bit of an outlyer as the only team that completes 70%+ of its passes.  Geo Tech is another outlyer that doesn't throw often or complete a high pct but gains 7.93 AYA.

The team closest in passing profile to UF is North Texas.

By the way Colorado State's closest passing profile over the last 4 years is South Carolina.

South Carolina  60.71 comp pct, AYA 7.79  Att/G 29.39

I guess Florida's passing game would be ok if you could consistantly run the ball.

If you add all the run plays from 2011-2014 and take out the sacks, UF averaged 4.75 yards per attempt.

This was the 76th best running average over this time frame (again not counting sack yards). Despite a weak average gain UF was #39th rushing attempts per game.

Over the same time Colorado State ranked #48 in average rush not counting sacks, 5.19 per rush. Which is interesting because I thought I saw somewhere that Muschamp was undefeated when UF gained over 5 yards per rush in a game.

The teams that seem to most closely profile UF in passing/running as far as adjusted yards per play are Minnesota, North Texas, Utah, and Virginia Tech.

The closest match to Colorado State in pass/run adjusted yards is Arizona State.

Big dumb football could never grasp the fact that offense is more important than defense, made even more so by recent rule changes.  The variance between the best offensive football teams and the worst offensive football teams is always greater than the difference between the best and worst defenses. Most analytic guys think football in 60% offense and 40% defense.

Big dumb football could not grasp that passing the ball made the run more effective, and that runnig was often simply a product of the score of the game, down and distance, and the scheme a team ran.  Baylor averages 5.67 yards per carry from 2011-14 and Oregon 6.83. Those teams pass the ball and when they spread you out enough run the ball right up the middle on you (the stated goal of most running teams).

Big dumb football could never grasp that running the ball could only keep you in a game but could not win a game.  At some point you have to throw it in the end zone.  Running it over and over again is an offensive strategy for underdogs and teams with a talent gap. Teams that run alot: Army, Air Force, Navy, Geo Southern, Geo tech, Nevada, New Mexico, Rice, Northern Illin, App St.

Now some teams do run the ball alot and are powers but it is a product of scheme or having an elite running QB, runnig back or both , Baylor, Oregon, Ohio St, Auburn, Wisconsin.  Florida did not have this and probably never would under big dumb football.
