"A few Questions to consider..."

I had the same initial response. However, after listening to Zooks press conference the next morning he explained that Fleming (I think) was uncovered and wide-open and the holder simple didnt get it there. Not sure how accurate it is, I don't have a tape to review. When the game was over, I felt the coaches let us down. I was anxious to hear what Zook had to say about using DIckey with the game on the line, the 2 point play, etc... His explainations were more than satisfactory for me, but thats just me. In the end you really have to take a deep breath and in a moment of pure honesty answer these questions: 1. If the two point play were successful... If Fleming would have caught the ball while standing all alone in the endzone...would that have been considered a sign of unconventional but effective coaching...ala Spurrier. 2. If Leak's last pass was 2 inches higher, would Zook have been the man who is destined to usher us into a new era...ala Spurrier. The difference is, to me atleast, when Spurrier took over we were an "also ran" sorta football program. When Spurrier took unconvential risks we tended to overlook them because he was building a program..and for a lak of better cliche.....CHANGE was good. Zook has inherited one of the most successful teams of the Decade and is asked to MAINTAN the dominance we have all grown accustomed to. Under those conditions, change is NOT good, but questioned at every turn. I agree, Zook and all the other coaches should be questioned. But we must also accept thier answers. Dickey's debut was the longest time of possession for the offense of the game, at a point where 1)the defense was tired, and 2) Leak needed to be calmed down (re:Zook). Perhaps the on the fly 2 point play authority should be examined, but that did not make or break the game. If it was successful, we kick a FG and go into overtime. Yes, Zook like his players, is inexperienced but, also like his players, he never quits, and seems to get better every game. And like this team, has the potential for greatness. We must allow Zook the leeway to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. When he messes up, we must ask why. But we must also LISTEN to his explainations and determine if they are reasonable given the circumstances. Most of all we must allow him, like we allowed Spurrier, to build this program and not attack every decision. Overall, he appears to be a man of solid character, undying work ethic, loyal to his team and players (Re: Martin), and a drive to bring to us another National Championship. There is no quick fix. We must rebuild. I think Zook, despite his inexperience and the mistakes that will occur because of it, is the perfect man for that job. I do not question your gatorness or loyalty. But we must sacrifice the short term to achieve the long term. We should give Zook at least as long as we did Spurrier to start bringin home the hardware and keep in mind in some respects Zook has a much more difficult task ahead than did Spurrier. Thats my 2 cents. FWIW. Go Gators.
