Our middle school team had a basketball game this afternoon. The coach of the other team is a friend of mine who used to teach at my school but now teaches at the school that was our opponent today.

One of the players on their boy's team is the son of the former DC at UNC who got fired right after the season was over. Given how their defense played this year, including giving up 70 to ECU, he took a lot of heat on message boards and various other social media. I asked my buddy what it was like for his son at school, wondering if his fellow students gave him a bunch of #badword#.

He said it wasn't so bad for the 8th grader, at least he didn't show it publically, but his younger brother had it really rough. Hearing not just from kids at school, but seeing, hearing and reading the comments from the general public on various social media. And in most cases, kids that young are usually just repeating what they hear at home.

And I know what I am about to type won't change anybody's behavior, but it will make me feel better to say it.

When posting stuff about coaches, and not just here on the VS, please remember that sometimes there are children who belong to these men that are affected by your comments. Kids who don't get paid millions of dollars to put up with all the negativity. Kids who may not know why people are saying bad or mean things about their dad, just that lots of people hate him.
