Qualitatively it won't get as high as other UF classes, but from where we started

when Coach Mac was hired, it would be a huge win to end up in the Top 20. I'm sure Tom or someone else could remind us how many commits we had in mid-to-late December.

Obviously there is a long way to go before it's over, but you have to feel good about the momentum we've seen this week. It's definitely a very positive sign, regardless of where we actually end up in the rankings.

I do recognize you were not referring to recruiting service rankings, but in ultimate quality as a class. We won't know that for a while, but if we get some of our top prospects still on the board, there's no reason it couldn't be a terrific class in the long run.

==============================

it's improbable that this class will finish as one of the best in recent history, in terms of talent and production.

Sure, anything is possible, but right now we are in a "we get what we get and we don't throw a fit" phase.

IF McElwain puts any combination of the top three targets together in this class, then his efforts have been remarkable. Perhaps even extraordinary.

For point of comparison, I thought Muschamp's finest recruiting came last year, despite the fact that it was not his best class. I thought that because of the constraints, albeit they were self-imposed, on his efforts. After all, he was following the first losing season in 30+ years and he had the sword of Damocles hanging over his head.

So I was complimentary of him last national signing day. With that said, I complimented him with the caveat that he (likely...because anything can happen) did not put together a championship class. I also acknowledged how UF was not positioned well when compared against the classes its rivals put together.

No matter what happens tomorrow, UF will NOT finish with a class that puts us on par with our peers. This is true EVEN if we sign errrrbody.

McElwain, similar to Muschamp the year prior, had too many constraints on him and his staff to put together a class on par with FSU, Bama, Tennessee, LSU, etc...

I don't care about recruiting service rankings. I look to roster management and talent across all positions.

So with that sobering news in mind, there is nothing wrong with any of us being very encouraged right now. Because UF is trending in the right direction.

IF we finish strong tomorrow, Mac and company can take that momentum into 2016, and put together an even better class. Finishing strong is VERY important in regards to the perception of our staff. They know this, and are working their asses off to make tomorrow as good as it can be.

In fact, yesterday could have been the start of something that will carry over for years and years to come, but let's not get carried away.

Mac has a lot of work cut out for him, and tomorrow won't fix all of our problems. However, his first class at UF could finish as a damn good start; and that's really all we can ask of him IMO.
