Message Replied To ========== I will state this about Muschamp... Yes, he's gone, and I should let the dead dawg lie. I hope to make a broader point, however.
Coach K likes to say he sees himself as a leader who happens to coach basketball. Obviously, that's a good tag line for someone who hopes to get lucrative speaker fees at corporate functions. I also sense Coach K really believes this and acts accordingly.
Guys like Muschamp seem to believe being a coach is all about the fundamentals of the game and very little else. Muschamp only appeared to care about the fundamentals on defense -- but I don't see that as the barrier that prevents him from ever being a successful head coach. What will prevent that is his lack of leadership.
Many volumes of books have been and will be written about what "good" leadership means. Trying to cover that here is pointless. Muschamp's childish tit-for-tat about UF, a program that gave him his first chance and also made him wealthy, is an example of inability to lead. I am sure we can all think of other examples (e.g., maintaining poise under pressure).
I know I am writing about Muschamp, even as I believe the best thing to do is ignore him. His words have no power. He's an example of exactly how to fail when given every opportunity to succeed. Following his actions and words are the opposite of planting fruitful seeds.
We appear to have a real leader heading the program now. Let's focus there. Thanks. ==============================cupboard a "bit bare" or the program "broken" when they left. I guarantee you though, that both believe without any shadow of a doubt, that they could have done better with what they left at UF than Zook or Muschamp did... But they don't talk about that. They admitted their failings and moved on to their other jobs, letting their legacy, good or bad speak for itself. Muschamp is still trying to build his legacy in news conferences rather than on the field. That speaks volumes to his failings at Florida.
