"At UF, we are one of about 8 Universities in the country that have a separate Athletic Assoc" |
|
Message Replied To ========== Donna D could probably answer this question best Last time I looked this up (which has been a while), none of the coaches at UF are part of the state employee payroll database, which means they're not paid by the university or the state. The UFAA, which is a separate and privately funded organization is responsible for 100% of the pay for our coaches. The money comes from donations, revenue generated by the sports themselves, etc. Honestly in my opinion this is the way it should be as these athletic programs generate sufficient revenue themselves and are not part of the overall mission of the school (and shouldn't be in my opinion). ==============================The others are all funded through their University's state funds and their employees are considered university/state employees. At UF, I and the 300+ employees that work at the Athletic Association are 100% funded from ticket sales, donations, etc. We are UAA employees and do not participate in any of the University's/State's programs, like retirement, insurance, etc. We pay for all our own benefits like sick leave, annual leave, employer contributions toward our insurance & retirement plans, employee tickets, etc. We also pay for everything we need to do our jobs, from pencils up to fancy Indoor Practice Facilities. We pay UF to use the O'Dome, their staff, security for Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics events, etc. We also pay UF for all the utilities for all our buildings and theirs that we house support departments in and teams in (Ben Hill Griffin, O'Dome, Lacrosse, Lemerand Center, Baseball, Swim/Dive, Tennis, Softball, Basketball, OSL, Gator Boosters, Sportshop, GatorVision, Maintenance, Pearcy Beard, Katie Seashole Pressly, Tennis Practice Facility, etc). AND we pay UF for parking decals too. We donate to every event they host and send coaches to attend as well. Those fancy National Championship events we've hosted in the past at the O'Dome and Stadiums? We pay for all that as well. Fireworks at games, halftime entertainment, etc. We pay for those as well. So we pay our own way and we average donating anywhere between $6 million and $14 million per year to UF, depending on how revenue has been for that fiscal year. |
