"#badword#'em, they made bad life choices." When did Jesus say that? So many want to infuse Christianity into our body politic, but it's never the stuff that Jesus actually gave a damn about (caring for those in need). It's usually linked to some desire to spend more on military in support of Israel or for some social judgment legislation or exemption from legislation.

But even if we remove religion from the equation, history has taught us that nations that didn't provide for their vulnerable fell pray to their vulnerable..time and time again.

Those above secure their homes through kindness to those below. Sun Tzu wrote that thousands of years ago as a militaristic principle, but it holds true today. Enlightened, first-world countries should act as such.

...is about helping others by donating time, effort, money and other resources by your own free will and desire.  You are blind if you don't see Christian-based organizations at work all around you that are full of Christians helping the poor. There are endless numbers of soup kitchens, food banks, hospitals, schools, homeless and abuse shelters, orphanages, adoption services, natural disaster aid services, addiction recovery services, etc etc etc that are sponsored and/or run by Christian and Catholic-based organizations across this country and throughout the world.  I would bet that most of these organizations are run better and more efficiently than similar government programs. These are supported by the generous donations of Christians and Catholics alike.
