""Florida isn't set up for mass transit..." when will it be? "

Message Replied To ==========

Sure but this won't work....,

It's going through WAY too many heavily populated areas at road grade, so it isn't truly a high-speed train.  A true elevated bullet train from Miami to Orlando might well work (and would also be a horrifically expensive gamble), but the problem remains of what do you do with the people when they get where they're going?  Many will still have to rent cars.  Florida just isn't set up well for mass transit.

==============================

I would hate to think that strip malls and parking lots just keep expanding indefinitely. The infrastructure that supports them is going to crumble in our life time... Somewhere, somehow, we need to make a change.

Trains and destinations; it's the chicken and the egg thing.

There is no way you can expect me to build a town center which relies upon 1,000's of daily visitors without making 3 to 4 times the room in land mass for the cars to come to without the train.

Build the train, and watch what begins to happen... the stops become extremely valuable real estate. They start with rental car centers then emerge as destinations and/or thriving (dense) neighborhoods.

Like it or not, we are continuing to grow. I'd prefer to see an end to sprawl.
