Question for the board.

With the wave of anti-intellectualism sweeping the country, attacking the institutions of education, replacing Bible verses for science, and the vilification of science and art by the religious fanatics, at what point do we say enough, and that education is important for our society to advance?

==============================

The article is a far left meandering of their very favorite talking points masquerading as a real article without any scientific discussion.  Talk about dumbing down of America...but here is my point, why load the question to begin with.  I mean really.  Political correctness has had a HORRIBLE chilling effect on opposing views.  For example, their are real and systematic issues surrounding race, but if you don't fall in line with certain orthodoxy, you are immediately labeled a racist, bigot or otherwise something grotesque.  We've seen such behavior here...many times...recently.  The same can also be said with most social issues where they begin to diverge along racial, socioeconomic or dogmatic/religious boundaries.

Do I believe that their is a concerted large scale anti-science/anti-intellectual movement afoot?  No, but one does exist.  As do anti-religious groups and movements, some of which come for the "intellectual" crowd learning down their noses at the unwashed masses.  So what?  This is a normal social fight. I do find it funny that the Gustopo tactics employed by the left for decades are now becoming the norm across the political spectrum.  I also find it laughable that many folks on the left still cling to the "if you were only smarter you could see the superiority of my position" elitism so ingrained in leftist thought.

I will agree that we have a real education problem in this country and that many many people young and old are poorly educated and will continue to be so. Why?  Because they can be and still get along...unlike in most countries where they could starve to death for being so happy to just getting by.

So what is the cause of this education chasm?  Of course we will not be able to really have a discussion about that either for the very reason I pointed to earlier....
