"I disagree with the negative reactions here."

Sure, the players made some bad plays. I think UF had the ability to beat UT. I was concerned about our chances in this game, however, because I was thinking this is exactly the style of game Fulmer-UT knows how to win. At the same time, UT got fairly lucky, really, (i.e., not due to skill) on a couple of long pass plays to get the victory. My assessment is that we do not have the players to do the things a lot of Gators who write here are demanding. Zook was actually making fun of you (obviously, some people don't realize they're the butt of the jokes) in his media responses to throwing the ball "down the field." As an aside, did you see Clausen just heave it up without having a clue where it was going to fall? Zook is basically asking if that's what you think you'd want to see from UF. Back to the players -- who exactly is going to "run deep?" I don't know how many of you played WR, but do you think the answer is to just send a guy running straight down the field? Maybe we send 2 or 3 guys running straight down the field? With all the experience we have at QB, I am sure they'll have no problem against a fast D like UT's in throwing TD after TD. Are we sending Caldwell deep? I bet his routes are really going to fool a lot of people. In fact, I bet he fools Ratliffe every day in practice and blows right past him, but the coaches just ignore that ability because they'd rather dink it behind the line of scrimmage. Seriously, is it Small who is going deep? No. Baker? He doesn't know how to get open (yet). Kight? Never. Troupe? See what I mean? The younger players who will, ONE DAY, be great at streaking past DBs in the SEC aren't ready to do it now. Only experience gives them the moves, timing, and coordination with QBs that it takes to make that (busting zones) happen. Our juniors and seniors do not have enough raw talent, and our QBs have not worked with any of them enough to develop an excellent 25+ yard passing game. The basic message: we do not throw the ball down the field because we are not good enough at the skill positions to do it. I know that message hurts, but it is where we are at this moment in time. I think Zook's comments criticizing 3rd down defense were totally on the mark and much more relevant, but those comments are getting ignored here. The corners were allowing UT to make first down from 3rd and long on fairly simple slants and down-and-in routes even though Clausen cannot throw it over the DBs' heads! We should NEVER let the WR get the inside on those throws. It was these plays that kept UT drives alive and ultimately killed UF's chances! On top of this, Ratliffe and Scott made serious blunders in this game at crucial times (how long have we heard "Knock it down" on ESPN?). Also, it was not our inability to throw deep that kept us out of the end zone the last two times we had the ball. We have other problems on offense that come with youth at ALL the skill positions. I never had high expectations for this year. I didn't think being 2-2 at this point would be a bad thing, especially if one had told me our youngsters could prove they belong on the same field as UT and Miami THIS YEAR. I always thought next year would be the first in which we might whiff great play again. I believe UF played the right kind of game to keep it close. I believe that we would have just had a bunch of turnovers trying to chuck it deep before we are ready to do that well. I'm one who doesn't want to lose 45-3 instead of 24-10 on freak TDs because the fans are not happy with the limited play book. I'd rather see UF try plays it can execute, even if that means the variety is lessened, rather than try a wide-open offense it has little hope to run successfully. We cannot run plays designed for horses when all we have this year are colts. If you think about it this way, you may see what UF is doing -- both this year and for the long term -- in a different light.
