"Hate is kind of a strong word, they coach for rivals now so there is that..." |

Message Replied To ========== Serious question here. Who do y'all hate more Boom or Urban?I read multiple posts wishing Boom to fail miserably but the consensus seems to be he was in over his head. If he did the best he could why the continued hatred? Urban did deliver but bailed when things got tough. I get the resentment for him. ==============================
Coming back for 2010 did not help his legacy. He is now tied to the down turn in Gator football. His players continued to get in trouble- and now were not winning. His eventual resignation can be viewed more cynically as a pause before taking the Ohio State job. A job he probably always wanted. I think really he was a mercenary coach, maybe they all are. As for Champ, I think he wanted to play a certain way and his vision was a failure. On top of that he did not realize his vision was a failure, which compounded the problem. His football product and personna (stubborness, sideline antics, relations with media and fans) tarnished the Gator brand. Had it ended with his resignation the idea that he was in over his head and just failed might be the majority view point. Champ, however, took it an extra step. He went right back into coaching (which is his right) by signing with a rival- Auburn. Maybe even that could be overlooked, but... he bad- mouthed the program (his program), he recruited against UF and swayed UF commits to Auburn, and like a child tried to get into a verbal spar with his successor. Not exactly the behavior you want from an ex-coach. |
